Benefit Package

Grant Transport offers a comprehensive insurance program consisting of medical, dental and life coverage. You can choose from single or family coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in the benefit package after three months of employment.

Based on concerns over the ongoing escalation of the employee benefit plan premiums, we retained the services of Selectpath Benefits & Financial Inc., to review and make some recommendations for our existing benefit plan. As a result of some re-negotiations with the existing insurer, Empire Life, we have decided to remain with them for another benefit year. Our re-negotiations have also resulted in significant reduction in the Long Term Disability premium rates.
We have summarized our current coverage, and the underlined items are the changes made to our plan as a result of our review. These changes are effective January 1 and February 1 of this year.

  • Basic Life Insurance $25,000
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment $25,000
  • Dependant Life $5,000 (spouse)
  • $2,500 (child)
  • Long Term Disability Pays 60% of monthly earnings
  • Premium is paid by employee, thereby making the benefits payable, non-taxable

Premium has been reduced, effective February 1, 2004
New Definition: Members may be disabled from their own occupation during the first 24 months to be eligible for disability. Beyond 24 months, a member must be disabled from any occupation to be eligible for disability.
Extended Health Care – (excluding Drugs and Travel) (Effective Jan 1, 2004)
I.e. Physio Therapist, Masseur, Speech Therapist, Social Worker etc.

Annual Deductibles eliminated

  • 80% Paid

Extended Health Care (Drugs & Travel) (Effective Feb 1, 2004)

  • Pay Direct Drug Card
  • Annual Deductibles eliminated
  • 100% of claim paid (up to $7.50 dispensing fee cap)
  • Drug Dispensing Fee Cap of $7.50 per prescription fill
  • Generic Drug Equivalent (unless Doctor recommends no generic substitution)
  • Annual Drug Maximum of $3,000 per employee

Dental

  • No Annual Deductibles
  • Basic Dental – 80% paid (100% dental coverage available at employee’s cost)
  • Major Dental – 50% paid
  • Annual Dental maximum of $750 per employee
  • Lifetime Orthodontics maximum of $2,000 per employee

We are very proud of the benefit plan that has been developed for our employees. Research has indicated that Grant Transport is in the top percentage of trucking companies that offer this excellent coverage at minimal cost to the employees.
You can also save for retirement by joining the company's registered retirement plan. The minimum contribution is three percent of your gross earnings, which will be matched by the company. Employees with one year of experience with the company are qualified to join.
